On Friday morning while watching my local news channel, I happened to find out about this wonderful event that’s going on this Saturday, September 27, 2014 here at Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas. It’s called Latinas in STEM and this foundation was created by 5 MIT grads with a mission to “inspire & empower Latinas to pursue and thrive in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) fields”.

I like the fact that this foundation educates not only young girls in the fields of science, engineering and mathematics through immersive workshops and presentations but also educate their parents to help encourage them to study in these fields as they continue on with their academic studies.

The one held here in Dallas invited Latino professionals from local companies such as AT&T, Texas Instruments and Bell Helicopter who happily volunteered their time to share their knowledge and experience to future engineers and scientists because you never know that one of these young inspired girls might receive a Nobel Prize, discover a cure for a deadly disease, design machines that will benefit the disabled or perhaps become teachers and professors themselves to encourage the next generation of girls.
