Book Review of On The Internet by Hubert L. Dreyfus
On The Internet by Hubert L. Dreyfus is an exploration of the human/computer relationship when interactivity and individual embodiment are involved with current online technology and virtual reality. Dreyfus sees the pros and cons of online technology when it comes to distance learning, virtual classes and hyperlink research, but mentions that research should continue to make technology as close to an extension of the individual.
As a pragmatist, he still believes that there should be face-to-face interaction between teachers and students and hands on experience is still required for particular fields that virtual technology cannot do. I recommend this book for anyone who wish to explore emerging media technology further.
