Earn a PhD in Emerging Media at Colorado Technical University
I am very close in receiving my MFA from the University of Texas at Dallas but I’ve always considered what I should do afterwards. I would love to move forward and start my career but then again, I do enjoy researching on cyberculture and social media communications.
Unfortunately, not many universities here in Texas offer PhD programs on these subjects, a majority of the universities are actually taught in Europe. I would hate to move so my other choice would to continue my studies at UT Dallas which will soon open a new PhD program in Arts & Technology which is great but I would love to work full time and start making a income.
Through the miracle of Twitter , someone that follows me tweeted a link to a school that actually offers a PhD in emerging media online. The school is Colorado Technical University and there are two degrees under this program. One is the Doctor of Computer Science-Emerging Media and the other is the Doctor of Management-Emerging Media. Now they both explore the possibility of studying web technology, virtual simulations, and social media; the Doctor of Management provides more of a leadership role. From the information that was available online, it’s really not that bad, especially for a program that is 3 years rather than the typical 4 to 6. Also, the traditional college tuition is dramatically rising so it seems very popular now that students save money by taking classes online. I’m still planning to talk with a representative later on to get more information, but it’s something worth considering if you want to continue your research in social media and online technology. What better way to learn about the web by taking classes on the web.
