We’re living in the Millennial age where our children are able to access technology at such a young age. This is a good thing, children are able to understand technology, communicate, be creative and perhaps in the near future be inspired to create start ups, have careers as web and app developers, or be the next Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg.

Social media is part of our culture, we engage in it everyday whether for professional or personal communications. As adults, we understand that what we put online will go public so we have to be careful but what about children?

As parents, when is it possible to allow our children the virtual key to the online world? At what age are they responsible enough to handle the information that rushes into their screens. Cyberbullying, harassment, child predators, and suicidal tendencies; these are but a portion of the darkside elements that we have to face when they create their first Facebook or Twitter account.

At what age should we give our kids smartphones and tablets? Today’s schools offer tablets for education but they’re limited to what they access, can we do the same?

There are mobile phones specifically tailored for kids that will make parents feel comfortable with them having. Parental control, GPS and emergency alerts are some of the features that are offered in these kid smartphones.
