Social media always surprises. We all know that it can be a storyteller, a source of information and a communication tool but there are certain moments where it allows us to form emotional bonds and express our emotions online. It’s an extension of ourselves through the online ecosystem. We go on Twitter and Facebook and read emotional responses on the Affordable Care Act, the government shutdown, football games, crimes, etc. Some see social media as an emotional release, letting the world know about our frustrations, happiness, sadness and anger. This online human behavior has become the norm though sometimes one should be cautious what they post online or face feedback from the larger communities.

In this case, I’m happy to know that at least we have more positive messages running across the social media platforms. Such is the case of Batkid Saves San Francisco. This recent viral story is about Miles Scott, a 5 year old leukemia patient, who wanted his wish come true to become his favorite hero Batman. So the Make-A-Foundation collaborated with the City of San Francisco to make his wish come true. The San Francisco Police Department guided Miles Scott, aka Batkid, through mini heroic adventures while a huge crowd cheered him on. Social media exploded as users respond on Twitter, videos uploaded on YouTube, various stories posted on Facebook and images uploaded Instagram.

In a way, we all made Miles wish come true by spreading the message that despite the negative stories we hear of what goes on in this world, there is good in humanity but why stop there? Let’s help make another child’s wish come true, let’s help educate children, let’s donate to the medical needs of children. We can also be heroes and bring hope to humanity.
