Technology To Keep Kids Out Of Hot Cars
There seems to be a growing trend of parents forgetting their kids inside of hot cars. First thing first, how can you forget your kid inside of your car! Look, I understand that it can be a hectic day or other kids in the car are proving to be a distraction but how can a mind wonder and not process the fact that there’s a kid in the car and in these hot summer months it can be very deadly. If you always remember to carry your smartphone to check on who posted on Facebook, you should remember that you have a responsibility as parent to protect your child. Ok, rant over.
Our brain is an organic computer, we can “program” it to accomplish many tasks. We memorize our pass codes, calculate equations and learn different languages. If our brain can accomplish this, surely we should process the idea to remember that there’s a little blessing in the backseat.
For starters, here are some mental exercises to get you going:
- Hang a picture of your child over the rear view mirror.
- Have a stuffed toy sitting on the passenger seat.
- Make a habit of turning your head towards the back seat.
- Leave your smartphone in the backseat.
- Make a habit of looking through the backseat window after you leave your car.
Fortunately there are some technology available that can help reduce this danger and prevent any child injuries or deaths. Walmart is currently selling a car seat called the Evenflo Advanced Embrace that contains a sensor that will alert the driver once the car is shut off. There’s also the Baby Alert’s ChildMinder SoftClip System that uses a proximity sensor.
There are also smartphone apps available to use that have a form of alert. Some available are Kars4Kids Safety, Remember the Kids, Baby Car Safe and Baby Reminder Widget.
Acquiring and using these technologies can help prevent child deaths due to hot cars and hey there’s always the old fashioned way, just program your noggin to not to forget your little blessing.
