Today, anybody can access information at anytime and anywhere thanks to high speed WiFi, Bluetooth and computers that have the technology to capture signals effectively for multitasking software and online platforms. This is definitely a godsend for start-ups, tech entrepreneurs, coders, programmers & designers who are constantly online doing projects, setting appointments & meeting clients via Skype or Google Hangout.

With the benefits of “remote work” is the opportunity for you to travel while working so how would you feel about working on the beautiful island of Puerto Rico for a couple months while the cold winter passes through New York City, Boston or Chicago.

Mark Hayward, a hospitality reputation manager and content strategist, suggests that the Puerto Rico Tourism department should take the opportunity of welcoming technology professionals to the island by providing incentives to make their stay welcoming while at the same time they have a chance to collaborate and mentor the island’s young technology community. This will benefit both parties, visitors will become more productive and local Puerto Ricans might actually get hired by these professionals or get inspired to create their own start-up companies, a win win.

I for one am all for this idea that Mark has labeled as “Code & Stay”. As a native Puerto Rican, I truly am positive that the economy on the small island will turn around and improve and it starts with young innovators and communities looking to expand the technology sector. This can lead to new business, attract larger companies to the island and training and education in the more attractive job markets. Mark is a perfect example that this can be achievable. He was originally from the Northeast part of the United States but the warm weather, ocean waves and the island culture of Puerto Rico called him there, now he is able to do business for his clients not only on the island but from the US as well.
