A new exhibit at New York’s Museum of Modern Art explores the concept of human interaction with technology from the present, the future and even to the bizarre. The popular exhibit, which is a combination of art and technology, is called Talk to Me. Communication technology platforms like smartphones and computers exist to provide us with easy access to complex systems and networks, this behaving as gateways and interpreters. Whether it’s openly and actively, or in subtle, subliminal ways, things talk to us, and interactive designers help us develop and improvise the dialogue.

This exhibit focuses on objects that involve a direct interaction, such as interfaces, information systems, visualization design, and communication devices, and on projects that establish an emotional, sensual, or intellectual connection with their users. This connection leads to the relationship between human and technology, I would define it as human augmentation. This exhibit breaks away from the specific roles  designed for several established technologies like geo-location and text messaging and are used in a more artistic fashion. Artists from the exhibit utilize these technologies and break them away from their intended purposes, thus discovering other potential uses in a creative process. The exhibit is from July 24-November 7, 2011.
